Good to know.

  • Is the free plan really free?

    Yes — Free is free forever for solo freelancers. Unlimited clients, projects, and time tracking, plus up to five invoices a month. No card, no trial clock.

  • Can I send invoices from my own email?

    On paid plans, yes. Connect your own SMTP server, Amazon SES, or Resend and invoices go out from your domain. On Free, they send through Hoursmith's built-in sender.

  • Do you collect payments for me?

    Yes — on Studio and above, clients can pay invoices online via Stripe Connect. The money lands in your own Stripe account (we never hold or route your funds), the invoice automatically marks itself paid, and your client gets an emailed payment receipt (you can send one for manually recorded payments too). You control which methods each invoice offers — card plus any number of bank-transfer or custom methods (cheque, Wise, UPI…) — and can optionally add a card processing fee, percentage or flat, that the client pays on top (the invoice total never changes; the fee is disclosed before they pay). Partial and offline (bank transfer, cash) payments work too. On Free you still get shareable invoice links, manual payment methods, and view tracking — just not card payments.

  • Is my data safe, and can I get it out?

    Your data is isolated per workspace, and it stays yours: export your clients, projects, and tracked time to CSV whenever you want, and delete your account — and everything in it — at any time.

  • Does it work on my phone?

    Yes. Hoursmith is fully responsive and installs as an app on your phone, so you can start a timer or check a balance anywhere.

  • Can I change plans or cancel?

    Anytime, from settings. Upgrade, downgrade, or cancel — changes take effect immediately and we prorate the difference.

  • Why flat fee instead of per-seat?

    Because the moment you hire an assistant or bring on a contractor, every other tool quietly raises your bill. Hoursmith doesn't. Studio is a flat $15/month annually for up to 10 members; Agency is a flat $31/month annually for up to 25. Hire freely. The price stays the same.

  • Can I run more than one workspace?

    Yes — Hoursmith lets you create as many workspaces as you need on every plan, including Free. Each workspace is its own organization with its own clients, projects, invoices, and team, and each one bills independently. You can switch between them from the workspace menu in the top-left of the app.

  • Can I invoice for things I didn't track time on — like flat fees or expenses?

    Yes. Invoices can be built from tracked time, from custom line items you enter by hand (description, quantity, unit price), or both at once. The 15-minute rounding only applies to time-derived lines; manual lines pass through exactly as entered, and you don't need a project at all for a custom-only invoice.

  • Can I track expenses and bill them to clients?

    Yes — on every plan. Log an expense against a client with a category and up to 10 receipt files, mark it billable, and pull it onto an invoice in a click; billed expenses appear under their own Expenses group and can never be double-billed. You can attach the receipts to the invoice as supporting documents, alongside an auto-generated, client-safe timesheet.
